Nelson & Co has a leading practice in the acquisition, financing and registration of commercial vessels and super yachts.  The Firm acts for leading banks and financial institutions as well as major shipping companies and numerous private owners of super yachts.

For more than twenty years, the Firm’s corporate management company, Maricorp Services Ltd. has provided an incorporation and management service for Cayman companies used as ownership vehicles for Cayman flagged commercial vessels and super yachts. Maricorp also acts as representative office for many foreign companies owning Cayman registered vessels.

The Firm’s senior partner Roger Nelson has an unmatched length of experience in maritime law and initially spent more than 7 years as an admiralty law specialist in London prior to relocating to the Cayman Islands.  Since forming the Firm in 1994, ship and super yacht registration, financing and associated legal work have remained an important practice area.

Siobain Groom Hatchard has since 1999 practised in the Cayman Islands, specializing in maritime law and in particular the financing and registration of super yachts and advising yacht owners in all aspects of owning and operating a Cayman Islands flagged vessel.

Both Roger and Siobain are members of the Private Sector Consultative Committee of the Maritime Authority of the Cayman Islands.

Other members of the maritime team include partner Steven Barrie and senior attorney Stephen Porter. Both of whom have for many years handled ship and yacht registration, mortgages and security documentation and related corporate work and legal opinions. Rounding off the team is senior administrator Jane Williams (trained and certified in Cayman shipping regulatory procedures) and with many years practical and hands on experience.
